LED strip support guide – RGB vs ARGB
Before you plug any LED strip into your motherboard or controller, it's worth understanding the difference between classic 12 V RGB and 5 V addressable RGB (ARGB).
RGB vs ARGB in one minute
- 12 V RGB: all LEDs share the same colour; usually 4‑pin headers.
- 5 V ARGB: each LED (or small group) can be controlled individually; usually 3‑pin headers.
Safety tips
Never plug a 5 V ARGB strip into a 12 V RGB header – this can permanently damage the strip. Always match voltage and pin layout exactly, and respect any markings such as arrows or “D” (data) pins.
